Tom Culham

Tom 2013

 

Tom, an engineer with a 30-year career, held a variety of senior business leadership roles including: consulting engineer, trade association representative, and forest products manufacturing executive. Tom completed his Ph. D in 2012 at Simon Fraser University in the Faculty of Education.

 

His thesis: Ethics Education of Business Leaders drew on: virtue ethics, Daoist contemplative practices, and pedagogy of leadership education with an emphasis on emotional intelligence. The thesis was published as a book in 2013 and is now being used as a text in business ethics courses.

 

His ongoing research interests include: Chinese culture with an emphasis on Daoism, embodied learning, and evaluating post secondary ethics pedagogy that incorporates contemplation and emotional intelligence.

 

He is currently Research Fellow, UBC Maurice Young Center for Applied Ethics, principal of his management consulting firm, and a sessional instructor of supply chain and ethics courses at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He has taught university business classes in Shanghai and Tianjin China.
