Remington Cooney

Rem HeadshotHi there! My name is Remington Cooney and I am a student in Simon Fraser University’s Contemplative Inquiry program – a first of its kind M.Ed program, which features contemplative approaches to teaching and curriculum design. My specific area of research is in the use of mindfulness meditation techniques in the enhancement of curriculum structure and student well-being.

Prior to my enrollment at SFU, I had been in-depthly studying Buddhist meditation, as well as training in the Hatha Yoga tradition. Whilst studying these contemplative practices – over the past decade or so – I realized I wanted to find a way to bridge them into the more secular world of mainstream education and business. This program has offered the foundation to building that bridge, and now, half way through, I am beginning to walk across it. This has led to the creation of The Dao of Now: a series of classes and workshops that offer mindfulness meditation in education and business settings. ( My research and findings from the contemplative program has directly impacted the mindfulness teachings and techniques that I can offer within these Dao of Now classes. By next year, I hope to have consistent mindfulness workshops and classes running weekly at Simon Fraser University, so that we can further foster student well-being and continue to build a contemplative community.
